Dr. Julie Nikolas, Assistant Principal - I am excited to be a part of CFSD! I choose to serve in education because I believe the mind is beautiful & I love helping others. I grew up in South Dakota & earned my professional degrees in Educational Leadership from the University of South Dakota. I completed undergraduate degrees at Northern State University in elementary/middle school education and K-12 Music Education. This year I am blessed to serve as the Assistant Principal at OGMS and as a Learning Support Specialist for the District. I dedicated my professional life to 22+ years classroom teaching and 15+ years leadership, supervision, human resources, and training & development. I love learning. I am a widow but have a wonderfully supportive and fun family with two children enrolled in college. Parents Still Make the Difference

As we conclude don’t let spring fever affect your child’s attendance! Fever is a reason to keep your child home from school.    Spring fever, however, doesn’t count.   The first rule for doing well in school is a simple one:   Your child needs to be there.   That’s true even on warm spring days when he’d rather be doing something else. Poor attendance can lead to all sorts of problems, including: ·       Poor grades. ·       Having to repeat a grade. ·       Dropping out of school. ·       Trouble with the law.   Children with too much time on their hands may be tempted to try illegal activities. Student Led Conferences are right around the corner and our students are looking forward to sharing their work with you.  Your child has been reflecting on his/her work, setting goals, and selecting portfolio pieces that show evidence of growth. Is Your Calendar Marked For Your Child's Student Led Conference?  March 16th or 17th are the dates set for your child to share his/her work A reminder that a student–led conference (SLC) is a structured conversation about learning between student and parent(s) that supports a student articulating his her progress toward goals set.   During the SLC, the student shares work samples, reflects on what they’ve learned and what they’re working on as well as sharing goals achieved and goals still yet to be mastered.    The parent listens and asks probing or clarifying questions to invite dialogue about learning.   Students engaged in a SLC:  accept personal responsibility for their learning   i...
