Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe our year is drawing to an end.  Once again I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with your child(ren) and so many of you who partnered with us to make Orange Grove a better place.  I wish our families moving on the very best in the years ahead as you continue to support your child(ren).  As I write my last post, please know it has been a sincere pleasure over my seven years at OGMS and thirty years in Catalina Foothills School District to teach, to learn from and to serve so many students, educators, and families who came across my career pathway. I leave Orange Grove Middle School filled with pride at the work that has been accomplished to make OGMS a place where the focus was on student learning and students embracing the importance of being respectful, responsible and kind. I leave knowing Mr. Rubin-Toles looks forward to the 17/18 SY with excitement, anticipation, and the new opportunities that await all those who will be attending Orange Grove Middle School next year.

Since feedback is the breakfast of champions and I recognize we can always do better, we are asking our families to take a short survey to help staff, myself, and your new principal serve you better.  The survey will remain open on our website for the next week and close on May 12th.  Please go to the survey by clicking on this link:

On April 28th, we recognized our volunteers at our last FFO meeting for the year, and I'd like to once again take a moment to more publicly thank the individuals whose partnership supported our successful 16/17 School Year.

Linda Gee, is leaving our Executive Board and she has served on the executive board for the past six years helping to change the way money has been raised for student and staff initiatives.  We thank her for helping us kick off the 100% Panther Pride Direct Giving Campaign.  Taking on the role of supporting our Direct Donation Campaign for next year will be Blythe Edmonson.  Next, we wish Cindee Reynolds the best as she too leaves the board.  Her service on the executive board spanned the past three years.  Mrs. Reynolds has kept us moving forward with a balanced budget and her fiscal responsibility and guidance has been appreciated.   We welcome Becky Swift who will take over the position of treasure.  Finally, Galena Robinson will remain on the board as the Past President while Gina Mehmert assumes the role of President. Galenas countless hours of service and dedication to the role she filled this year helped to further facilitate a great year.  Additionally, we acknowledge Anne Gruber for her role on Grants and Jessica Brandt as Secretary.  Both women will continue on the board and their commitment to the work is noted.  I thank the women noted for their impeccable organizational skills, patience and a willingness to roll up their sleeves and do whatever it took to get the job done.

I would be remiss if I did not recognize the numerous school volunteers and committee chairs who further helped us make a difference this year.

Hats off to our volunteers: These folks helped make our work better.

And last but not least….
As this is my last “Keeping you in the Loop” for the year, I’d like to thank my executive board members for all of their work this year:  Linda Gee, Jessica Brandt, Anne Gruber and Cindee Reynolds.  Thank you to Cris Algeo and Anne Morgan for keeping everything together in the front office with smiles, no less!  Thank you to all the FFO committee chairs and members who worked to appreciate the staff, bring treats to FFO meetings, attend CFSD Foundation meetings, support families in need, organize book fairs, work with students on community service projects, manage PE uniform orders and sales, arrange dine-outs, pulled off another great color run, and put together a memorable 8th grade promotion.  Thanks to the tireless lunch duty volunteers and everyone else who did their part to make our year a great one.  You know who you are!  J

A special thank you to Mrs. Rosenthal! Your presence will be missed next year but know that you have left Orange Grove Middle School a happier, brighter place! Thank you for all your years of service in our wonderful district. It’s teachers and administrators like you that make this community so special and unique. THANK YOU!

Happy summer!

Galena Robinson, FFO President,

What Happens to the Money Left on my Child's Lunch Card?

You may be wondering what happens with the monies left on your student’s lunch card at the end of the school year.

·      If they are continuing at OGMS next year, the monies will be there for them in August.

·      If they are going to CFHS, the monies will follow them there.

·      If they are leaving the Catalina Foothills School District AND there is a balance of more than $15, then we will refund the balance.  Please notify the OGMS front office if this is the case for you.

To find out what the balance is in your child’s lunch account, go to the OGMS website and the InTouch tab.  Log into InTouch using your child’s id number and their last name with the first letter of the last name capitalized.

If there is a negative balance in your child’s lunch account, please make a payment on InTouch or in the OGMS front office.

Final Promotion Reminder

Dear 8th Grade Parents/Guardians:

On May 22nd and May 23rd, we will practice for promotion.  I will be encouraging students to think of the practice as their final middle school performance.  It will be an opportunity for them to demonstrate their ability to present themselves as a group as well as to be recognized both as individuals and as a class.  The students will be working together to set a tone for the ceremony where every student is recognized and celebrated.

A reminder that your 8th grader should be appropriately dressed with the boys wearing collared shirts and slacks and the girls wearing dresses that meet dress code standards.

Again, I look forward to the remainder of the semester and to seeing all of you on May 23rd.  The promotion ceremony begins promptly at 6:30p.m.  Students should arrive on campus by 6:10 p.m. in order to line up.  Because we expect a large audience, remember to have your tickets ready to enter the MPR.  Because we have limited seating capacity, we are recommending immediate family members only sit in the MPR and that those without a ticket are encouraged to sit in the library where they can see the ceremony through live streaming.  Please be aware that our parking is limited and the Catalina Community Church parking lot is available for your use.

A reception will follow the promotion ceremony from 7:30 - 8:00 p.m and the promotion dance, for Orange Grove 8th grade students only will begin at 8:00 p.m. and end promptly at 10:00 p.m. We ask that you pick up your child at the bus bay only so we help all students exit from the same area.

Again, thank you for sharing your son or daughter with us during their middle school years.

Susan Rosenthal

May Edition

We hope this has been a year of learning and growth for all of our students. Don’t let the summer months hold you back from continuing this learning and discovering as a family. In fact, Albert Einstein said, “Play is the highest form of research.” The desert offers an amazing playground for you to enjoy. Escape the summer heat by finding water in Tucson at Sabino Canyon, Catalina State Park, Madera Canyon, or Aravaipa Canyon; head up to Mt. Lemmon to enjoy the Butterfly Trail or Rose Canyon Lake; travel to the various splash pads, water parks, or pools; spend time inside learning a new card or board game; go on a Tuscon scavenger hunt finding the old neon signs, museums, medusa Saguaros, or downtown to take a ride on the trolley!

Whatever it is you chose to spend time doing this summer, we hope you cherish the time together.

It has been a pleasure supporting all of our students this year.  Best of luck to our 8th graders as they begin high school in the fall.  We look forward to welcoming back everyone in August.

OGMS Renovations to be Done this Summer

Exciting news....Orange Grove is getting a new look this summer through Bond Improvements.  A primary goal of the current Bond Improvements Program is to renovate the interiors and fields of our schools. As part of a multiphase plan, work at Orange Grove Middle School will commence after school is out. The work planned for this summer includes repainting of classroom walls, new flooring (i.e. carpet or vinyl tile) replacement and select ceiling and cabinet replacement, replacement of plumbing fixtures and small scale remodeling. An example of the remodel work includes moving an interior wall of the Band room to increase the room size.  Also, a ramp will be built in the multipurpose room to allow provide to the stage without using the stairs.

Field improvements scheduled for this summer include replacement of the tennis/basketball court. In a subsequent summer, the playing fields will undergo new sprinkler systems, select sod placement and resurfacing of the track.

Orange Grove Middle School is the second school to undergo these improvements which are planned across the District over the next 5 years.

The Administration office will be open during the summer work.
